The gap that keeps women unseen

DearReader,

I found myself between two worlds.

Growing up in India, the message was clear.

Don't stand out.
Don't take up too much space.

Be invisible.

It's easy to internalize that.
Even easier to stay rooted in it.

Then I came to America at 22 and everything shifted.

In my Master's program, I sat in awe of how women showed up.

Maryanne, a mom from Pennsylvania, was juggling school and kids, and her presence was anything but small. She spoke up, asked questions, and carried herself like she belonged.

It was the first time I saw that a mom could also be a student.
That wasn't something I had seen back home.

I also watched people work while studying and supporting themselves in ways that felt completely foreign to me.

I became one of them.

I got a second job washing dishes.
I remember the discomfort of that.

Not because there was anything wrong with the work, but because of what I had been taught to believe about it.

Looking back, those were all identity shifts.

Small moments.
But they changed how I saw myself.
And slowly, how I showed up.

I didn't have language for it then.

But I was learning how to take up space in a world where the rules were completely different from the life I came from.

That tension doesn't just go away.

It shows up in how we speak.
In what we share.
In how visible we allow ourselves to be.

Most women I work with are experts at what they do.

But there's often a gap between who they are and how they're showing up.

That gap is what keeps them unseen.

That's why I created 3 Days to Visible.

It's not about fixing your brand in three days.

It's a starting point.

A place to look honestly at where you've been holding back, who you actually want to speak to, and what you want to be known for.

If you're a woman who's been pivoting, branding, or rebranding, this challenge is made for you.

Alpana on empty plane at the start of the pandemic

Dear Reader, Back in March 2020, I was on a plane from San Diego to the Bay Area. I was the only passenger on it. At first, I took a photo of the empty plane, and the flight attendant told me to pose. Found this photo buried somewhere on my RAID system. One person. One plane. The world mid-exhale before everything stopped. I had just finished a four-month leadership program. Multiple trips, rigorous work, tough coaches who didn't sugarcoat a thing or let you off the hook. The kind of program...

Dear Reader, I just completed my first 24-hour water fast. And I feel pretty darn proud. From my recent mini-vacation in Santa Barbara. Before I continue, this isn't advice or a recommendation. It's simply something I chose to try for myself. I'm conscious of diet culture, which I don't subscribe to, and fasting or not is a personal choice. I'm at my heaviest in years after my trip to India and the aftermath of losing my dad. That season has been rough, especially after hitting my lowest...

Hey Reader, On Monday, I ran the Vision Board Workshop. People came with different starting points. Some had a word, some didn't. By the end of the workshop, everyone had one.And a plan for getting their board done—which I walked them through in Canva Focus. Elevate. Progression. Intuition. Audacious. Phoenix. Nourish. Freedom. Here's what Ashwini, a new connection through LinkedIn, said afterward: This is a wonderful exercise. Alpana, you are so genuine and smart. I am happy to pay more and...
