I woke up pretty early this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep. So I thought I’d edit a few photos. Somehow, I ended up rewriting an entire page of my website. That was not the plan. But once I started I realized the old page wasn’t showing enough of my recent work. People often come to me thinking they need one thing. But rarely do we create just one type of image. We usually create a mix of personal and professional images that show different sides of who they are. Recently, Ellen came in for her session and said, “Now I have more versions of Ellen to put into the rotation.” We captured LinkedIn headshots, but we also photographed her wearing jewelry from her in-laws and an outfit she wouldn’t normally wear. Photos that felt more like, “This is who I am right now.” I’ll also be sharing Ellen’s story soon, so keep an eye out for that. Sometimes a woman is building a business. Most headshot sessions are only bust and up, but my sessions often include more range, with different posing, backdrops and full-length images too. So I added new work and removed older work, although I still love it. And a few hours later, the page finally felt much more like the work I actually create with my clients. Check out the updated HEADSHOTS AND PORTRAITS page here. I’ll be teaching business owners how to create everyday brand photos at home using just their phone. I’ve wanted to teach this for a while, and it’s finally coming together. Is this something you’d be interested in? |

DearReader, My son finally got a job. And I don't think I realized how much I was holding my breath for him until he did. Rowan graduated from UCSB a year and a half ago with a degree in data science. This is also a generation that went to college during COVID, when very little about college life was normal. Then they graduated into another shift. AI had taken off and the job market was changing. And a degree in a field that had seemed full of opportunity didn't necessarily mean finding a job...
Reader, Your profile photo might be an old version of you. I've been thinking about how often women step into a new chapter of their lives, but the way they see themselves, and the way they show up, hasn't quite caught up. They're still carrying an image of an older version of who they were, even though there is so much more to who they are now. I get it. Work, motherhood, caregiving, life and everything else in between. There's always something that gets pushed ahead of making time for...
Reader, Last year, I launched way too many things in a short amount of time. The strange part? They worked. There were buyers for each project, but by the end of it, I was burnt out. As a multi-passionate entrepreneur, I’ve had my energy pulled in a lot of different directions. So maybe it’s no surprise that my word for this year is focus. But in all the madness, I can see the thread that runs through everything I create. It all starts with what sits underneath. How we see ourselves, the...
